THE FERRY SCHEDULE

Let's talk about our ferry schedule for this winter :)
ITS HORRIBLE!!!! Everything about this schedule is horrible. They eliminated so many routes to the mainland its ridiculous. So lets break it down, we still have the usual morning ferry to Anacortes at 6:50 am and even one at 8:55 am, but then you have to wait until the 12:10 pm boat to Anacortes. Ok that may not seem horrible but if you miss the 12:10 you have to wait until 5:10 because there are no other boats. If you live on Orcas island it makes it very stressful to get off island because if you want to leave in the middle of the day or even if you have a family emergency your out of luck. The greedy politicians that make up the schedule must not realize that if it wasn't for the Islands the ferries would go out of business.  This is because most of the revenue comes from those annoying tourists. And if you still think the ferry schedule is acceptable, then consider those sky high ferry rates that are way beyond ridiculous. Think about it, the regular rate for a normal car is $30.00.  Yes, that adds up fast, and if you're a frequent commuter you will probably buy a five car pass for $122.00.  That is still expensive.  So where are we? Stuck between having to play their games with the travel times and the spendy prices.  And as a side note, during the summer when the tourists are like flocks of rabid animals, the residents do not get any guarantee that we can get home because of overloads and standby. I think that the schedules need to change, the rates go down, and if you're a resident you should have some kind of priority loading in order to avoid long line and overnight stays.
