Just say Thanks.

Last night the school put on a corn maze for the students who wanted to go. We didn't just go to the corn maze we also went to Deception Pass and Mount Erie.
Our first stop was at Mount Erie and we all agreed that the views were spectacular.  In this blog I could talk about our trip and how we all had so much fun but I'm not. I'm going to talk about how some people don't just do things for the credit or for selfish reasons. For example, Jesus dying on the cross. He didn't want all of us to worship on how great he is but on his unfailing love for us.
Yesterday on the corn maze Mr. and Mrs. Fox accompanied us on this awesome trip. They didn't have to. They could have gone to church or played tourists or flown to Alaska ( probably not Alaska but it's metaphoric.) Instead they ran around and played Sardines with a bunch of 9th and 10th graders.
We all take for granted what everyone does for us. We just need to turn around and say thank you.
So...
Thank You Foxes. We appreciate your works.

What Should I be for Halloween?

What should I be for Halloween? You may ask yourself this question. Well there are many different things you could choose to be. I enjoy dressing up as gangsters, or athletes, because I have many jerseys. It is easy to dress up as something, just use your imagination and you can be whatever you want! You can be a robot with a cardboard box and some duct tape, and maybe some house supplies. Halloween is a time to have fun and collect candy, don’t try to make it a deathly and dark holiday, just try to have a great time. Here are three easy things to dress up as that is fun as well.

  1. Robot, use cardboard and duct tape.
  2. Make up something! An alien pirate! Or an elf football player!
  3. A super hero! Use a blanket as your cape!

The Times They Are a Changin

For better or worse music has changed drastically from what it once was. People like to say that music is worse then it once was, this is most likely true; but no ones making them listen to it, you have the choice. Music reflects a generation, for instance the songs of The Beatles describe the 1960’s generation, and the way most people were. The times were really changing drastically, and people were trying to make sense of it all. For instance the lyrics from a song goes: “You say you want a revolution, well you know, we'd all want to change the world, you tell me that it's evolution well you know we'd all want to change the world. But when you talk about destruction, don't you know that you can count me out, don't you know it's going to be alright.” People wanted more peace in the world, they just wanted to chill and relax. The people from the generations before said that these people that just wanted peace were wrong, and that when they became leaders of our country we would just collapse. Well the music now is more explicit, but just because some artists choose to swear doesn’t mean all do. Sure some of the music has sex, drugs, and violence in it. But contrary to popular belief not all of my generation’s music is about sex and drugs. There are a few musical artists that don’t rap about sex, drugs and violence. For instance the rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony featuring the hip-hop artist Akon made a top ten hit for a song called “I tried.” It’s about the struggles that people live through everyday in their own neighborhoods, some lyrics are: “I tried so hard, can't seem to get away from misery. Man, I tried so hard but always be a victim of these streets, it ain’t my fault cause I tried to get away but trouble follows me. And still I try so hard hopin one day you'll come and rescue me.” Music is about saying what you want. Now I don’t agree with the sex, drugs, and violence; but I do think that music is important for people, and you can’t change what people want to say in it. I believe more artists have realized this, and that’s why more artists are making music that is more encouraging; like Eminems “I’m not afraid” he used to rap about sex and drugs, but recently he has changed his style to a more motivational type of music. Some artists have been criticized for the way they live their lives, that’s why some people including myself have decided to be a fan of their work, not the artist themselves.

Giants win in Game 1

The Texas Rangers took an early lead 2-0 in the top of the first. The San Francisco Giants knocked in one run in the bottom of the 2nd to pull with in 1 run of the Rangers. Again the Giants got a runner on base and were able to get some hits to tie to game up at 2. After two innings of play the game was tied at two runs apiece, until the Giants explosive bottom of the 5th.

All the pain for the Rangers in the 5th started with a 1 out double by Andres Torres. Freddy Sanchez then doubled scoring Torres to take the lead for the Giants 3-2. Buster Posey was called out on strikes, 2 outs for the Giants. Pat Burrell walked making it 2 runners on base for the Giants. Cody Ross singled to center field scoring Sanchez. Aubrey Huff singled into center field again scoring Burrell. The Giants now lead 5-2 over the Rangers and things aren't looking good for Cliff Lee. Ron Washington the Rangers manager makes the pitching change, Darren O'Day comes into pitch. O'Day threw two outside sliders to Juan Uribe, then he came back inside with a  86 mph fastball. With two runners on base, Uribe turned on the fastball and crushed the ball into the stands extending the lead to 8-2 for the Giants. That would conclude all the scoring for the Giants in the 5th inning.

The first two batters for the Rangers in the top of the 6th struck out. The third batter was Ian Kinlser who walked. The next batter Bengie Molina doubled scoring Kinlser to pull the Rangers within 5 runs. Molina advanced to third base and a deflected line drive by the pitcher Tim Lincecum. David Murphy singled into right field to score Molina, to make the score 8-4 Giants.

No more scoring happened until the bottom of the 8th inning. Edgar Renteria singled to right field, but advanced to 3rd on Vladamir Guerrero's fielding error. Travis Ishikawa doubled on a line drive to left field scoring Renteria. Torres poped out to the Rangers third basemen to make it 1 out in the inning. Freddy Sanchez singled into right field scoring Ishikawa, but Guerrero made another fielding error letting Sanchez advance to 2nd. Buster Posey grounded out, then Nate Schierholtz hit a line drive to center fielder Josh Hamilton. That would conclude the Giants scoring in the bottom of the 8th making their lead 11-4.
The Rangers made it a closer game by scoring 3 runs in the top of the ninth. That would conclude the World Series Game 1.

Final score: Giants 11 Rangers 7

Here Comes Trouble

Who is this?
You guessed it, Sophomore Sean Haugen, and my "loving" twin brother.
Recently, he got his dirty blonde hair bleached and now my family calls him Ichigo, a character from the anime show Bleach. The reason we call him Ichigo is because in the show he has this crazy, spiked, orange hair that sticks up.
This photo was taken at 7:30 a.m. today and you can see the expression on his face, it says: "If you take that photo, I don't know what I'll do to you..." So don't say anything bad about Sean's hair; you never know what might happen; he has quite the imaginative mind.

Mr. Worley's Honda Element

I interviewed Mr. Worley about his car, and if he were to buy a new one what kind of car would he get. Currently he owns a Honda Element and he says he is quite pleased with it for a several reasons.  First, the convenience of upkeep and general versatility.   I also wanted to know if the car was good for everyday basic use.  He said yes.  He likes that it has good handling, it's easy to clean, has lots of storage, and it does well in the snow. There are a few things he didn't care for though such as the fact that it's really ugly and the seats easily become dirty.  However, the ride is comfy, and it gets good gas mileage.  He also said it is a great 2-4 person car. Mr. Worley enjoys this car enough that he would consider buying another Element.  The Element has space like a small pickup when the seats are folded.  Looking for a great family car?  Looking for a car that gets between 22-28 miles per gallon?  Hoping your vehicle will be big enough to carry your large dog?  All this and more awaits you in the Honda Element.         Downtown Danny

Effie Please Write a Poem!

I beg of thee

Please write a poem Effie,
I don’t want to have to call big Jeffie,
The time is running out,
I don’t care what it’s about,
Your poems shall make me cheer,
No one would dare jeer,
For your poems are the best,
So forget the rest.

Please

Effie, oh Effie
Please write us a poem
Alas the time of dark and gray has come
It seems as though nothing can cheer us up
If only, If only Effie were to write a poem
Then, only then we shall be content.

Back in Mrs. Roosma's Class

Ah, the feeling of stepping back into Mrs. Roosma's class room. No one can teach a class quite like Mrs. Roosma. One thing a kid notices is the class room enviroment and how the class room is decorated in bright colors. Today myself, DomiKNight, and Classic Kid walked into Mrs. Roosma's room to take some pictures and get some interviews for the blog.

Cory plays football and baseball. He likes to eat pizza when he can. His favorite school subject is Art.

Sunshine likes to play basketball and soccer when it comes to sports. Her favorite subject in school is science.

Lucien prefers to play video games in his spare time rather than playing sports. His favorite school subject is PE. He likes to play video games on his DS.

Tori's favorite food is broccoli. Her favorite thing at school is lunch.

U.S.A World Cup 2022.

This last summer, as many of you know, was the World Cup. It was in South Africa and many of us Americans got very excited about it. As for me, I was in Mexico watching it in a restaurant with a bunch of Mexican dudes shouting spanish commands at the screen. In fact, I watched more Mexico matches than American matches.
All of us have the chance to bring the World Cup to the United States in 2022. The World Cup was going to be here in 2018 but Russia and England barely beat us out. The U.S.A World Cup could actually come to Seattle if we can rally up enough votes.
You might not be a big soccer fan but if you watched the World Cup last summer you will be. Vote for the World Cup in the U.S. at this website...

Every vote helps and after December 2nd the voting is over so hurry.

On the Road Again

I had the opportunity to head off-island with my friend Staci and her parents on Saturday the 23. Taking the red-eye ferry, we headed over to Anacortes and drove to Burlington to go shopping. We had about three or four lists from other family members to shop with. First, we went to Lowes to get a door and an extra frame for Staci's sister Katrina. Various places we went to, Target, WalMart, Costco, and we ate at this really nice Japanese cuisine buffet; had good food. I also bought a really cute hat for $3 at a gas station store. After our adventures, we headed back to the Anacortes ferry landing to catch the 3:30 boat home to Orcas. Staci and I played rummy, a card game, on our way off-island and back; the game still awaits completion, so it is game on the next time I see her. For the most part, we were stiff when we got back from riding in the car for so long, but luckily we did some walking, and that helped. We got home around 5:30 and rested up for the remainder of the weekend.

World Series Matchup

The Texas Rangers eliminated the New York Yankees to advance
to their first World Series. The Rangers didn't have a Series win in the playoffs until they beat Tampa Bay to play the Yankees. The Yankees had only lost one game to the Rangers in the playoffs, prior to this year's ALCS. My congratulations to the Rangers and I hope you can win it for the American League.

The San Francisco Giants were the underdog in the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants over the years haven't made the playoffs, even when they did they would lose in the NLDS. The Giants weren't much of a run scoring team during the regular season, so most people were figuring they would lose in the NLDS. That didn't happen.  They beat the Atlanta Braves to play in the NLCS. The Giants beat the Phillies in 6 games by one of the most exciting ways to win a baseball game-hit a home run in the top of the eighth to take the lead, shut the Phillies down in the bottom of the eighth, then try to score insurence runs in the top of the ninth(which they didn't), and then get the win in the bottom of the ninth with the save.

What if...

Everyone says what if. I know I have a lot of "what if" in my life. What if I was a professional athlete, what if I don't clean my room, what if I was a billionaire, what if I don't do my homework, what if they don't like me.
God the almighty is the one to get those what if's to come true. God has the power to change your life. That "What if" soon becomes a "when will it" then to a "Why isn't it" and then finally a "It is."
There are songs, movies, and even talk shows about what if. What people don't realize that when you come to God that what if is nullified by his power into an it is.

Facebook Popularity

Facebook has surpassed Google in online websites. Its popularity has grown from 395 million to 436 million members in the months of January and February of 2010. The membership has grown more than 10 percent in the last month and has become the No. 1 ranking website in the world. This site is also very prime for advertisements, including online and television advertisements.

Quote from analysis firm Hitwise:
[Matt Tatham, Director of Media Relations at web analysis firm Hitwise, said, "It shows content sharing has become a huge driving force online. People want information from friends they trust, versus the anonymity of a search engine".]

Whats happening in Novemeber?

Gamers and people who love movies can't wait for the month of November. Why is this?

a. This will be part 1 of the final Harry Potter movie.
b. There will be so much more detail than previous Harry Potter movies.
c. There will be a lot more action and darker scenes in this movie, probably making it a highly PG-13 movie.

2. Now moving onto what all First Person Shooter (FPS) gamers and Call of Duty fans are waiting for. The release of Call of Duty Black Ops on Nov 9.
a. This game will be better than any Call of Duty games.
b. Treyarch has come up with some great new ideas for making the game seem more real for players.
c. Treyarch will be introducing different types of game play: One in the Chamber, Gun Game, Sharpshooter, and Sticks and Stones along with the usually Multi-player and Campaign. Zombies are also being introduced back into the Call of Duty series.
d. There will be a currency system for Black Ops Multi-player.
e. A feature will allow players to buy different face paints, logos, camos, etc to customize their character.
f. New and old killstreaks/weapons are going to be part of Black Ops.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child has many different factories all around the U.S. Kids in Africa, Afghanistan, Sudan, and many other countries are facing starvation and hardships that are unimaginable to us; they have nothing. A lot of the time we don't realize just how fortunate we are. Our stuffed animals that we own from when were kids sit on our shelves, collecting dust and being forgotten, our toys lie in boxes under our beds. There are so many things that we buy and then toss aside like trash because we have grown out of them, or we have forgotten all about them.
Each year, we have the amazing opportunity to join in on one of the biggest organizations in the country that spread the word of Jesus. When a child receives a shoe box, joy comes to the people delivering, and the children get something worth having. Millions of people are apart of this wonderful organization, so contribute to the cause by bringing in various toys, coloring things, books, etc. to school.

The Time of Storms is Coming

The time of winter and storms is coming fast-so be prepared! Weather experts say that high speed winds are coming soon; these winds are powerful enough to blow trees down, and take away our electricity. You must be prepared for these winter wind storms. Here’s a list I made on how to be prepared.

  1. Make sure you have a wood stove, or possibly a generator. Because the power will most likely go out.
  2. Have plenty of flashlights and batteries, or a lantern; candles are also a good source of light when eating dinner.
  3. Make sure you have plenty of blankets, because sometimes fires aren’t enough to heat your whole house.
  4. Have plenty of water because your pipes could freeze, and your water won’t turn on because the power might go out.
  5. Make sure you have plenty of canned foods, baking supplies, and a cooler with ice, so you can use up your food that will spoil if the power goes out.
  6. Have a landline phone with a cord; it will still work if the power goes out.
  7. Try to stay with a family member or friend no matter what. You don’t want to get hurt and have no one there to help you, its nice just to have someone to talk to, and keep you company during a storm.

Where is The Love?

Our Blog class was wondering where is the love at our school? Let’s just try to all be friends; so the Blog class decided to find some ways to make our school friendlier.

1.      Make all classrooms more comfortable, like Mr. Worley’s room.
2.      Don’t be a hater! Love rules all.
3.      Try to be a friend to everyone, even if they annoy you.
4.      Don’t worry, be happy! If you’re angry at someone or something in your life, talk to a friend, or Herbie, sure he’s no expert but he will help you with whatever is wrong. You have his word on that.
5.      High schools not the most fun thing in the world, but just try to make the best of it; I know I don’t always do that, but everyone should at least try it.
6.      Be a friend to all, our high school is too small to have drama, it’s unnecessary and immature.
7.      Just be yourself and try to have fun. Here’s a quote I came across. “My choice is what I choose to do, and if I'm causing no harm it shouldn't bother you. Your choice is who you choose to be, and if you’re causing no harm then you're alright with me.”
Here's a link of a song called "Where is the love?"

Elementary Memories

My memory wanes when I think about my elementary years. Not much comes to mind but I was checking out the Orcas Christian School website, (oics.org), and I found a story about a past bake sale:

Graye Parnell, Soren Sweet, and myself were in 5th grade at the time when Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc across the country. A family who survived the hurricane were injured terribly. The family's son had been paralyzed from the neck down due to falling debris of nearby buildings, their house had also been destroyed during the devastating storm. So what Mrs. Roosma decided to do was gather various parents together and bake pastries to sell at Island Market. We raised a lot of funds for the family. The amount of money that we made has faded from memory, but I know that it helped them a great deal.

Satisfaction overwhelmed me at the end of the day.

Rossi vs. Murray

Sen. Murray who is up for re-election has a 1 point lead over her opponent Rossi according to a recent poll. Murray looks like she will keep her seat on the Senator as Rossi has lost two elections running for Governor, which has made people in Washington lose some interest in him. But we have to remember that we have indepentdents in our state and this poll revealed that 57% of independents are siding with Rossi. That makes this race for Senator a heated one. The poll also revealed that 55% of women in the state like Murray and 53% of men like Rossi.

Giants could win it all tonight, Yankees force a game 6

The Giants last night beat the Phillies in a 9 inning thriller. Juan Uribe hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th to win the game for the Giants 6-5. The pitching was outstanding from both teams last night. I'm sure the only pitch that a Phillies pitcher wants back is the one Roy Oswalt threw to Juan Uribe. The Giants now lead the NLCS 3 games to 1 over the Phillies. The Phillies send the Doc (Roy Halladay) to the mound against The Freak (Tim Lincecum).

The Yankees defeated the chance of being eliminated by the Rangers and forced game 6 of the ALCS. The Rangers have the advantage in the upcoming 2 games (if they have to play 2 games). The Rangers will have the home town crowd and they only have to win 1 of the games to eliminate the Yankees and move on the the World Series, while the Yankees are on the road and have to win both games to move on to the World Series. The Yankees dominated the Rangers 7-2.

Remember the Elderly

Remember those who are in suffering great hardships
Prayer is a powerful thing. Today, many people need prayer all over the world; kids who are homeless, loved ones who are sick, and many more. What prayer do you have? If there is someone important to you that is sick or in critical condition, take a couple minutes out of your schedule and prayer for those people in need of God. I have many prayers on my mind, but the one thing I want to come true the most is my grandmother's body to being healed. She is around 70 and her back and hips are giving her excruciating pain. She had to receive a shot the other day to help with the pain, turns out that the drug didn't do anything to help with the pain. I only hope that God can at least take the pain away even though she is climbing the ladder of age. My grandmother is the kind of person who has the impression that if you don't do it yourself, then you won't be happy with the results. I love my grandmother very much; it hurts me to hear that she is in so much pain. I am praying for you, grandma.

Really?

I love it when someone tells me how busy they are.  I hope to have the courage someday to ask, "Why are you telling me you're busy?" It would also be fun to sarcasticly reply, "Really?"  But I'm not sure I'm that great at sarcasim.  Please, don't tell me you're busy.  Let me discover you're busy.   If I'm impressed, I'll compliment you with, "Wow, you're amazing-you're one of the coolest busy people in the world."  Why didn't Jesus every say, "No, I can't help with that because my life is soooo busy."  Jesus was about being helpful.  He was never too busy to help someone in need.  If the situation arises that you choose not to help-don't blame it on busy.  Just say, "I think it's best if I pass on this opportunity.  Thanks for asking, and please ask again!"  This paragraph isn't very long-but if you knew how busy I am you wouldn't worry about length.

MUSIC

Hello fellow students, I would like to see what genres of music you listen too. I want to hear from you, whether it be heavy metal, hard rock, soft rock, pop, rock, rap, hip hop or folk music.  I also would like to know what makes you want to listen to it. Maybe you like all sorts of music.  Well, gather up a list of your favorite bands or artist and bring them to me. I need to know what kind of music this generation likes and why. Is there a reason you like this music? How did you find out about it? What is intriguing about it

Its a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

The weather has been very nice as of late. It has seemed as though winter has come early this year. The temperature has even dropped below 40 degrees at my house. While the cold weather is here it is not unenjoyable, and many folks even prefer it to warm weather. This year is El NiƱo, which means a very strong winter season. I'm hoping for lots of snow this year.  The last time we memorable snow was 2007.

Why I joined the Fire Department

I joined Orcas Fire and Rescue on my birthday last April. Growing up with my dad or both of my parents leaving on calls always made we wonder growing up "What is it like to be on a call?" I have known a lot of the current members of the department for as long as I can remember. Walking around old station 21 at the heels of my dad, I would look around in awe of everything. When I turned 13, I told myself that I really wanted to become a firefighter when I became of age to join the department. I guess growing up in the household of a firefighter really inspired me to become one myself.

After joining the Department I have been going to fire drills, aid calls, some false alarm fire calls, and taking online firefighting classes. Going to the fire drills has really helpful when it comes to firefighting. Up to this point I know how to pump water in and out of the tankers(truck with big tank of water), use the front monitor on the WASP engines, pump water in and out of the WASP engines, connect and disconnect hose correctly, role up hose correctly, and know where things are on the different styles of rig.

I'm looking foward to taking the class in January to become a certified firefighter as I'm only a Cadet.
