The Time of Storms is Coming

The time of winter and storms is coming fast-so be prepared! Weather experts say that high speed winds are coming soon; these winds are powerful enough to blow trees down, and take away our electricity. You must be prepared for these winter wind storms. Here’s a list I made on how to be prepared.

1. Make sure you have a wood stove, or possibly a generator. Because the power will most likely go out.
2. Have plenty of flashlights and batteries, or a lantern; candles are also a good source of light when eating dinner.
3. Make sure you have plenty of blankets, because sometimes fires aren’t enough to heat your whole house.
4. Have plenty of water because your pipes could freeze, and your water won’t turn on because the power might go out.
5. Make sure you have plenty of canned foods, baking supplies, and a cooler with ice, so you can use up your food that will spoil if the power goes out.
6. Have a landline phone with a cord; it will still work if the power goes out.
7. Try to stay with a family member or friend no matter what. You don’t want to get hurt and have no one there to help you, its nice just to have someone to talk to, and keep you company during a storm.

Where is The Love?

Our Blog class was wondering where is the love at our school? Let’s just try to all be friends; so the Blog class decided to find some ways to make our school friendlier.

1.      Make all classrooms more comfortable, like Mr. Worley’s room. 

2.      Don’t be a hater! Love rules all.

3.      Try to be a friend to everyone, even if they annoy you.

4.      Don’t worry, be happy! If you’re angry at someone or something in your life, talk to a friend, or Herbie, sure he’s no expert but he will help you with whatever is wrong. You have his word on that.

5.      High schools not the most fun thing in the world, but just try to make the best of it; I know I don’t always do that, but everyone should at least try it.

6.      Be a friend to all, our high school is too small to have drama, it’s unnecessary and immature.

7.      Just be yourself and try to have fun. Here’s a quote I came across. “My choice is what I choose to do, and if I'm causing no harm it shouldn't bother you. Your choice is who you choose to be, and if you’re causing no harm then you're alright with me.”

Elementary Memories

My memory wanes when I think about my elementary years. Not much comes to mind but I was checking out the Orcas Christian School website, (oics.org), and I found a story about a past bake sale:

Graye Parnell, Soren Sweet, and myself were in 5th grade at the time when Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc across the country. A family who survived the hurricane were injured terribly. The family's son had been paralyzed from the neck down due to falling debris of nearby buildings, their house had also been destroyed during the devastating storm. So what Mrs. Roosma decided to do was gather various parents together and bake pastries to sell at Island Market. We raised a lot of funds for the family. The amount of money that we made has faded from memory, but I know that it helped them a great deal.

Satisfaction overwhelmed me at the end of the day.

Rossi vs. Murray

Sen. Murray who is up for re-election has a 1 point lead over her opponent Rossi according to a recent poll. Murray looks like she will keep her seat on the Senator as Rossi has lost two elections running for Governor, which has made people in Washington lose some interest in him. But we have to remember that we have indepentdents in our state and this poll revealed that 57% of independents are siding with Rossi. That makes this race for Senator a heated one. The poll also revealed that 55% of women in the state like Murray and 53% of men like Rossi.

Giants could win it all tonight, Yankees force a game 6

The Giants last night beat the Phillies in a 9 inning thriller. Juan Uribe hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th to win the game for the Giants 6-5. The pitching was outstanding from both teams last night. I'm sure the only pitch that a Phillies pitcher wants back is the one Roy Oswalt threw to Juan Uribe. The Giants now lead the NLCS 3 games to 1 over the Phillies. The Phillies send the Doc (Roy Halladay) to the mound against The Freak (Tim Lincecum).

The Yankees defeated the chance of being eliminated by the Rangers and forced game 6 of the ALCS. The Rangers have the advantage in the upcoming 2 games (if they have to play 2 games). The Rangers will have the home town crowd and they only have to win 1 of the games to eliminate the Yankees and move on the the World Series, while the Yankees are on the road and have to win both games to move on to the World Series. The Yankees dominated the Rangers 7-2.

Remember the Elderly

Remember those who are in suffering great hardships

Prayer is a powerful thing. Today, many people need prayer all over the world; kids who are homeless, loved ones who are sick, and many more. What prayer do you have? If there is someone important to you that is sick or in critical condition, take a couple minutes out of your schedule and prayer for those people in need of God. I have many prayers on my mind, but the one thing I want to come true the most is my grandmother's body to being healed. She is around 70 and her back and hips are giving her excruciating pain. She had to receive a shot the other day to help with the pain, turns out that the drug didn't do anything to help with the pain. I only hope that God can at least take the pain away even though she is climbing the ladder of age. My grandmother is the kind of person who has the impression that if you don't do it yourself, then you won't be happy with the results. I love my grandmother very much; it hurts me to hear that she is in so much pain. I am praying for you, grandma.

Really?

I love it when someone tells me how busy they are.  I hope to have the courage someday to ask, "Why are you telling me you're busy?" It would also be fun to sarcasticly reply, "Really?"  But I'm not sure I'm that great at sarcasim.  Please, don't tell me you're busy.  Let me discover you're busy.   If I'm impressed, I'll compliment you with, "Wow, you're amazing-you're one of the coolest busy people in the world."  Why didn't Jesus every say, "No, I can't help with that because my life is soooo busy."  Jesus was about being helpful.  He was never too busy to help someone in need.  If the situation arises that you choose not to help-don't blame it on busy.  Just say, "I think it's best if I pass on this opportunity.  Thanks for asking, and please ask again!"  This paragraph isn't very long-but if you knew how busy I am you wouldn't worry about length.

Hello fellow students, I would like to see what genres of music you listen too. I want to hear from you, whether it be heavy metal, hard rock, soft rock, pop, rock, rap, hip hop or folk music.  I also would like to know what makes you want to listen to it. Maybe you like all sorts of music.  Well, gather up a list of your favorite bands or artist and bring them to me. I need to know what kind of music this generation likes and why. Its a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

The weather has been very nice as of late. It has seemed as though winter has come early this year. The temperature has even dropped below 40 degrees at my house. While the cold weather is here it is not unenjoyable, and many folks even prefer it to warm weather. This year is El Niño, which means a very strong winter season. I'm hoping for lots of snow this year.  The last time we memorable snow was 2007.

Why I joined the Fire Department

I joined Orcas Fire and Rescue on my birthday last April. Growing up with my dad or both of my parents leaving on calls always made we wonder growing up "What is it like to be on a call?" I have known a lot of the current members of the department for as long as I can remember. Walking around old station 21 at the heels of my dad, I would look around in awe of everything. When I turned 13, I told myself that I really wanted to become a firefighter when I became of age to join the department. I guess growing up in the household of a firefighter really inspired me to become one myself.

After joining the Department I have been going to fire drills, aid calls, some false alarm fire calls, and taking online firefighting classes. Going to the fire drills has really helpful when it comes to firefighting. Up to this point I know how to pump water in and out of the tankers(truck with big tank of water), use the front monitor on the WASP engines, pump water in and out of the WASP engines, connect and disconnect hose correctly, role up hose correctly, and know where things are on the different styles of rig.

I'm looking foward to taking the class in January to become a certified firefighter as I'm only a Cadet.
