America's Favorite Food

Can you guess what America's favorite food has been for the last 50 years? It is a cuisine that everyone enjoys by far... pizza!!! Today, millions of pizza's are being sold and gallons of pizza are being eaten a day. Money is pouring through the doors as pizza shops open and customers come in with empty stomachs and leave with bulging guts. According to statistics, people who have empty stomachs and like pizza will most likely stop by a pizza shop and eat up. Though pizza is not the healthiest food in the world, it is the most popular fast food and quick snack that Americans eat.

Big Brother, Big Sister at OCS

The Big Brother, Big Sister program is an activity at OCS.  This program connects an older student (grade 7-12) with a younger student (grade K-6).  These new siblings do many activities throughout the year, which enables them to become more acquainted.  At OCS we have always done the Big Brother, Big Sister program. I have always enjoyed it; as a little brother, and a big brother it has been fun. I'd like it if we got to do more activities with our siblings, I think that if we did then it would be a more enjoyable experience. In the past we did more Big Brother, Big Sister days at school.  I think it would be helpful if we kept this tradition active for years into the futurre.

Will the NFL start suspending more?

After the weekend that fans will remember as "the rough hit weekend", the NFL is deciding if they should hand out more suspentions to players for helmet to helmet tackles. This weekend sent four players off the field with major head injuries due to helmet to helmet tackles.

[Former player Rodney Harrison, now a television commentator, was known for his vicious tackling style. He says suspensions are the only way to tone down the violence in the game.
"You didn't get my attention when you fined me five grand, 10 grand, 15 grand," Harrison said on NBC's pregame show Sunday evening. "You got my attention when I got suspended. ... You have to suspend these guys. These guys are making millions of dollars."] [1]

This is not only a problem on the profesional level. Last Saturday, Rutger's player Eric LeGrand was paralyzed from his neck down on the opening kick off. The next day, Sunday, on the same very field Detriot Lions LB Zack Follet had to be carted off the field.

Josh Cribbs one player who was carted off on Sunday

In my opinion, to change the way players tackle will change the NFL all together. If the NFL continues to make more rules it will be for the players playing touch football unstead of tackle football.

Our lives

Last night I was lying in my bed looking out of my window at the stars. I was thinking of all the things I need to do like exercising, homework and cleaning my room. That's when I realized that all the excitement in our lives that we just need to slow down and take a break from all of our busywork.
If you take a look at this cartoon it definitely represents how crowded how crowded our lives are.
Nearly everyone is affected by the "Work Syndrome."
Almost no one can escape from the work syndrome once you start working hard there is nearly no way to get out of it.
Most high school students have sports, school, and are expected to help around the house. I think most of us just have to slow down, take a deep breath and tackle this situation the same has every other one. One step at a time.

Seattle Sounders game

So on Friday I had the experience to go to a Seattle Sounders game. The Seattle Sounders are the soccer team for Washington. For my birthday we watched the Seattle Sounders play Chivas U.S.A.
We made sure we got there really early because it was fan appreciation night and had lost of exciting stuff was happening. Outside the stadium they had booths with free items such as; hats, mini soccer balls, face paint, and even hair paint. We were outside the stadium for 2 hours, getting all the free gifts that were made available to fans. Once we were inside the stadium it appeared as if there was only going to be a samll crowd.  When the attendance was announced as 27,000 people, I was shocked.
We sat inside the stadium waiting for the game to start. That's when I saw one section really start to pack in with fans. A little into the game the fans in that section had huge flags, cheers, and even organized dances or waves. About 5 minutes before the game started they unfurled the Sounders flag that signified that our team had won the U.S. Open Cup this year.
Once the game started it looked like the Sounders were playing better than the Chivas. We observed correctly because the Sounders go up to a quick one to nothing lead. The fun thing about this game was that if the Sounders scored three goals then everyone would get a free haircut (if they wanted it.)
The game went by pretty fast and the Sounders won the last regular season game 2-1. I had a great time and can't wait for the play-offs.

A Steal Of A Deal!

photo of Columbia River Lighthouse

So, how much would you pay for an acre of land on Orcas?  Well, how much is an acre worth to you at another location on the planet?  How does 3 cents an acre sound for a steal of a deal?  Would you be content if you could double the size of your current property holdings by 23% of the present acreage of the United States?  What if you could get those 828,800 square miles for 3 cents an acre?  Would you send the same real estate broker that had been kicked out of the other real estate office on a previous deal that had gone bad?  Win a prize from something catchy by identifing the above purchase and the date it took place.

On November 7, 2010 the OCS High School will embark on a Northwest History Tour.  There we will discover the size and shape of Seaman.  We will learn the name of a famous American born in the Northwest's first planned city.  We will climb 164 steps to the top of Astor Column.  Danny Brown
will attack and ride a killer whale in the Pacific Ocean!  Well, all the rest is true, and we'll do it in just one of the six days we will be gone.  How does Wall Street Pizza sound?  Yes, it's true-Wall Street Pizza!

What event receives much of the credit for this land purchase becoming a reality?  Get out your walking shoes, and put on the rain gear, we're headed to the Oregon Trail.  Hope you can come along!

Wisdom

"Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
who leave the straights paths to walk in dark ways,
who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways."

"Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous.
For the upright will live in the land and the blameless will remain in it;
but the wicked will be cut off from the land and the unfaithful will be torn from it."

Upset in Phillie, Rangers crush Yankees

Oh my goodness, am I dreaming or what?  Did the Giants just beat the Phillies with Roy Halladay pitching? The man who pitched a near perfect game the last time he was on the mound.  The Giants' victory was because Cody Ross hit two unexpected homeruns.  Final score: Giants 4, Philles 3.

Yet another poor pitching performance for the Yankees. The Rangers pitching and offense dominated this game with complete style. Now the Yankees are in a tough situation having to face Cliff Lee in New York. Personally, I think the Yankees will do really well in the next 3 games.  Being home with the crowd on their side will make a huge difference.  The final score today was,  Rangers 7, Yankees 2.

God Likes What He Sees! Do You?

As a blogger I'm always wondering what to write about.  Should I try to be funny, clever, inspiring, or maybe sound like someone famous.  It's hard to be anyone else but yourself.  I wish, I hope, I try, but it always ends up me!  I'm trying to do the blog thing and just be me.  The main thing that gets in the way is my need for you to like me.  Oh, how I want you to approve of all the stuff I write about, or the way I live my life.  Adults bring smiles to my face when they exclaim they don't care what other people think about them, or about what they're doing.  Today, just let the moment open before you.  Relish each breath you take.  I think God cares more that we enjoy who we are, rather than us trying to be something better or different than the person who we see in the mirror.
