NFL Season Opener Vikings vs. Saints

Last night marked the opening of the NFL season. This year's opener was the NFC Championship game all over again, Vikings vs. Saints. Brett Farve returned again to play QB for the Vikings this season. The Saints took an early lead over the Vikings in the first quarter 7-0. It was all about the Vikings in the second quarter where they kicked a field goal to come with in 4 points. Then they drove down the field and scored a touchdown to take the lead 9-7. That was the score going into half time and the Saints got the ball in the second half. The Saints drove 74 yards down the field and scored a touchdown to take the lead 14-9. That was the final score for the game. This season should be a great season for all the fans.

FORD VS. CHEVY TOW/HAULING

For as long as Ford and Chevrolet motor companies have been around they have been the largest rivals in automotive history. I personally prefer Ford over Chevy and this is my reason why: Lets start with the towing/hauling capacities of the Ford F-350 compared to the Chevrolet 3500HD.

Now according to statistics given by both companies, Chevrolet is cheaper yet has a little higher payload standard.  However, according to consumer reports, Ford is built stronger with a higher than maximum payload threshold than statistically listed. OCS chapel 9/10/10

Today, in OCS chapel a few high school students told the story of Elisha and his servant. This story is about learning to see in the 4th dimension. The story portrays the Bible teaching that "God will make a way" for us to deal with life's problems. I Love This School

I use to think I'd fine the best school in the world if I just lived long enough!  Since I'm running out of time on the long enough part, I now realize that any school can be the best school.  I've also learned that what I do at school makes a huge difference in the entire school life experience.

Presently, I'm part of the BLOG class.  I'm the oldest member and have the most to learn.  The younger than me students-Liam, Herb, Sierra, Jared-treat me like it doesn't matter that I'm older (by 45 years) or don't know as much as they do.  I'm sure Mr. Roosma knew when I invented the BLOG class idea that I would be the student and the students would be the teacher.  That's why I love this school.  We're all learners and small means we have to get along and "work it out!"  I use to love this school because of the buildings.  I use to love this school because of the island setting.  I use to love this school because of the Friday Chapels.  I use to love this school because of the field trips (well, sort of).  I use to love this school because of the hot lunches(more haystacks please).

But if the hot lunches ended today, or there were no more Chapels, and if the buildings aged overnight, or the field trips ceased to exist, if the island disappeared and we suddenly lived in the city-I would still love this school.  A long time ago my dad use to take me to minor league baseball games.  We went to lots of games.  Our team always lost more than they won.  Each year I hoped to root for a winning team.  It never happened.  Now I realize why I loved going to those games.  I was with my dad, brothers, and sometimes my mom.  It was being with the people who loved me and let me be me.

There it is.  I love this school because each year the family emerges.  We learn to care and reach out.  We learn to be ourselves and to let others grow at a safe pace.  Today I was really intense in class.  I think I scared Doug and Marissa.  When it was over I apologized(sort of) and felt like we were still friends.  The family is emerging-enjoy the process.  I Love This School.     RAW

Year of the Injured Arms

This school year and summer has resulted in some of our many friends here at OCS with injured arms.

First, Herbie Sisson was at football camp down by Seaside, Oregon. His arm was hit by a two different player's helmet fracturing his right arm and dislocating and breaking part of his right thumb. The doctor said it was one of the worst dislocated thumbs he has ever seen.

Next up we have Grant Slavens, our only freshmen guy this year, who was biking down Mt. Constitution when he hit a bump at a slow speed and his whole body flew over the handle bars landing on his right shoulder. Turns out that Grant injured his growth plate in his shoulder.

Finally, so far, we have the most recent and by far the most painful. We don't know exactly how it happened but Graye Parnell ended up with a compound fracture (bone sticking out of the skin). All of our prayers are going out to him right now as he is in a lot of pain.

Election Candidates Are In!

Here at OCS we have now recieved the names of all the candidates for the SA elections, which will take place on Tuesday the 14th of September. The uncontested runners are as Follows: Aliviah Garcia for Social Vice, Graye Parnell for Spiritual Vice, Brynna Gregg for Secretary Treasurer, and Julia Bailey for Director of Public Relations. The students who will be running against one another will be as follows: Marissa Veldman and Liam Nutt for Sergeant-At-Arms, and Kaylee Madeiros and Jared Grantham for the position of SA President. Speeches will be given on Monday the 13th of September and a reminder to all OCS students to remember to Vote on Tuesday!
